Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016 Amended
On July 14, 2020, the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016 (RRCEA) one of two statutes that outlines the Authority’s legislative mandate, was amended to give the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks the authority to appoint the Authority’s Board Chair.
Two additional amendments to the RRCEA also allow for:
- The Minister to require compensation disclosure of the Authority’s directors, officers, and employees.
- The Authority’s Annual Report is no longer required to be tabled by the Minister in the Legislature.
The amendments to the RRCEA comes after Bill 159, Rebuilding Consumer Confidence Act, 2020, received royal assent on July 14, 2020. Bill 159 amends a number of statues, including the RRCEA, in order to strengthen consumer protection and enhance business practices.
