Annual Registrant Survey

Since 2019, RPRA has engaged independent research firms to survey its registrants each year. The survey helps RPRA understand registrants’ needs, what is working well and identify opportunities for improvement.

2026 registrant survey

The 2026 registrant survey will launch early November to mid-December. For 2026, RPRA reduced the survey length to make it easier for registrants to complete and to encourage greater participation.

Click the headings below for more information.

Your feedback helps RPRA better understand registrants’ needs and experiences and informs improvements to its services, communications and overall registrant experience. Participating also helps ensure your organization’s perspective is represented.

The table below summarizes actions RPRA has taken in response to feedback registrants provided in previous surveys:

What registrants told usExamples of how RPRA implemented feedback
Continue reducing administrative burden.Supported the establishment of the Canadian EPR Regulators Forum with EPR regulators from other provinces to share knowledge and promote cross-jurisdictional collaboration with the goal of minimizing burden for multi-jurisdictional registrants.
Improve support materials for registrants.Simplified registry resources using plain language, including compliance bulletins, program pages and emails to help improve registrant understanding of compliance and reporting requirements.
Improve service standards, responsiveness and personalized communications.Finalized Registrant Service Standards to evaluate and measure RPRA’s performance to ensure registrant satisfaction, enhance operational efficiency, optimize costs where possible, and identify areas for continuous improvement.
Strengthen public engagement through a public-facing website.Launched OntarioRecycles.ca, RPRA’s website to keep the public informed about the circular economy and recycling in Ontario.
Make published reports and analysis more useful and accessible.Published new public reporting metrics, including more data about free riders on the Compliance Activities webpage and recovery data by registrant group on the Resource Recovery Reports webpages to give a more transparent and complete picture of the data reported to RPRA.
Continue improving billing and payment processes, including clearer fee-setting procedures.Built new user-friendly billing and payment features in the registry in response to feedback from registrants to reduce burden, simplify processes, and provide more options for paying RPRA invoices.
Consult with stakeholders and finalize RPRA’s program fees earlier in the year.Starting this year, RPRA consulted on program fees in July and finalized fees in October rather than in December.

The person most familiar with the organization’s interactions with RPRA should complete the survey. Invitations are sent only to the account admin and primary contact listed on an organization’s account in RPRA’s registry.

If more than one person needs to provide input, one person can complete part of the survey and save their progress, and the next person can pick up where they left off using the same survey link. Only one response will be accepted per organization to ensure equal representation in the results.

Participation is voluntary. Registrants are encouraged to provide feedback so that RPRA can understand what is working well and where improvements are needed.

Yes. The survey invitation will be issued by Forum Research, an independent third-party research firm, on RPRA’s behalf. All responses will be collected securely, kept confidential and shared with RPRA without names or other identifying details.
