Mary Cummins Appointed Registrar

The Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (RPRA) is pleased to announce Mary Cummins has been appointed Registrar, effective February 1, 2022.

As Registrar, Ms. Cummins will lead RPRA’s Registry support, compliance, and enforcement function, including overseeing inspections, prosecutions, and the Registry system used to receive and store information related to resource recovery and waste reduction activities.

Prior to her appointment as Registrar, Ms. Cummins served as RPRA’s Deputy Registrar since August 2018 and was responsible for supporting the delivery of RPRA’s risk-based regulatory program, including helping regulated parties understand their compliance requirements and enforcing compliance with the Waste Diversion Transition Act, 2016 and the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016 and their associated regulations.

Her extensive experience in designing and delivering regulatory programs and managing stakeholder relations with RPRA and previously Waste Diversion Ontario and Stewardship Ontario, will ensure RPRA’s compliance program and Registry system continue to operate effectively and efficiently in order to fulfill the government’s vision of a circular economy in Ontario,” said Robert Poirier, Chair of RPRA’s Board of Directors.

Registrar and General Counsel Noah Gitterman will assume new responsibilities as General Counsel and Chief of Strategic Initiatives starting in February, allowing him to focus on providing counsel to senior management, staff, and the Board of Directors and supporting the organization in advancing projects key to fulfilling RPRA’s legislated mandate.

“Over the past year, Noah’s leadership has resulted in a number of major milestone accomplishments for the organization that will ensure the momentum of Ontario’s circular economy initiative, including the development of the Batteries Registry, Electronics Registry, the Excess Soil Registry, and the launch of new compliance programs for Hazardous and Special Products and Blue Box. I am thrilled Noah will continue to support me and the Executive Team in advancing RPRA’s strategic priorities including the completion of the Hazardous Waste Program Digital Reporting Service,” said RPRA CEO Frank Denton.
