Ontario government revokes soft drink container regulations under the Environmental Protection Act

The Ontario government has revoked Regulations 340 and 357 under the Environmental Protection Act (EPA) to remove refillable soft drink container requirements that are out of date, no longer needed and cause confusion with current producer requirements under the Blue Box Regulation. The change came into effect on April 12, 2023.

This change will not impact current producer responsibility requirements under Ontario’s Blue Box Regulation. Producers of soft drink containers who have a management requirement are still required to collect and manage their regulated materials.
