Everest region bans single-use plastics

In a sweeping effort to reduce the amount of litter left behind on Mount Everest, Nepali authorities are banning most single-use plastics, including drinks in plastic bottles. The ban comes after the country imposed a mostly unsuccessful deposit scheme, where each climbing team would have to pay US$4,000, which would only be refunded if each person carried down eighteen pounds of waste.
