Chemists at the University of Colorado Boulder have created a new way of recycling PET plastic through electricity and chemical reactions, recovering plastic’s molecular materials for reuse. Researchers found that by using electrolysis on plastic mixed with a molecule known as [N-DMBI]+ salt, PETs could be disintegrated. Read more about breaking down plastic with electricity.
