Minister directs Stewardship Ontario to amend MHSW wind-up plan
The Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has issued a letter to Stewardship Ontario (SO), directing SO to develop amendments to its Municipal Hazardous or Special Waste (MHSW) Program Wind-Up Plan for the disposition of surplus funds. The Minister’s direction letter requires amendments to the plan to facilitate a lump sum transfer of each Industry Stewardship Organization’s (ISO’s) portion of material-specific surplus funds.
This direction applies only to the MHSW material categories managed by ISOs and does not relate to material categories managed exclusively by SO.
SO must submit its proposed MHSW Wind-Up Plan amendment to the Authority no later than April 30, 2020. Stewardship Ontario must make the lump sum payments to the ISOs within two weeks of the proposed amendment being approved by the Authority.
