Registration open for Electronics and Batteries

Here are the details you need to know about registration requirements under Ontario’s Electrical and Electonic Equipment (EEE) and Batteries Regulations:

Are you affected by the new regulations?

The EEE Regulation applies to producers, haulers, processors, refurbishers and producer responsibility organizations (PROs) of information technology, telecommunications and audio visual (ITT/AV) equipment and lighting weighing 250 kg or less and supplied or used in Ontario.

The Batteries Regulation applies to producers, haulers, processors, refurbishers and PROs of single-use and rechargeable batteries weighing 5 kg or less and sold separately in Ontario.

Registration deadlines

Producers, haulers, processors and refurbishers of ITT/AV are required to register with RPRA on or before November 30, 2020.

Producers of batteries are also required to register on or before November 30, 2020. The registration deadline for battery haulers, processors and refurbishers was March 31, 2020.

Collectors of ITT/AV or batteries, including operators of sites where EEE or battery waste is generated, are not required to register. However, producers (or service providers on their behalf) are required to identify and report the collection sites in their collection system by April 30, 2021.

How to register

Producers

Contact our Compliance and Registry Team if:

  • You are a steward in the OES program
  • You were a steward in the single-use battery program operated by Stewardship Ontario
  • You believe you meet the criteria of a producer under the EEE or Batteries Regulation

Our team can assist you in determining whether you have registration obligations under the EEE or Batteries Regulations and what data you need to report.

Contact us at registry@rpra.ca or call 647-496-0530 or toll-free 1-833-600-0530.

Producers will be required to pay a Registry fee as part of their registration. These are fees that registrants pay to the Authority to cover costs related to building and operating the Registry, and compliance and enforcement activities. View the 2020 Registry Fee Schedule.

Haulers, processors and refurbishers

If you are a hauler, processor or refurbisher of ITT/AV or batteries, complete the applicable registration form and email it as an attachment to registry@rpra.ca.

There are no Registry fees for haulers, processors or refurbishers.
