Registration Guidance Manual for Generators of Liquid Industrial and Hazardous Waste Updated
The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has finalized updates to the Registration Guidance Manual for Generators of Liquid Industrial and Hazardous Waste to reflect regulatory changes to Regulation 347: General – Waste Management.
These changes, which take effect on January 1, 2023, include the requirement for businesses and institutions to report their activities and pay fees through RPRA’s Hazardous Waste Program Registry instead of through the Hazardous Waste Information Network (HWIN) system currently operated by the ministry.
Other key updates include:
- outlining factors that may be considered by the ministry when determining whether ‘undue hardship’ exists
- outlining requirements for the written agreement for authorizing delegates to report on behalf of generators of hazardous waste
- reflecting changes made in May 2021 to exempt waste from COVID-19 antigen point-of-care testing from certain regulatory requirements while still requiring that the waste be safely disposed
- outlining updated requirements for short term storage notices as part of the registration process
The changes were finalized following a 45-day consultation period, which concluded on November 12, 2022. Read the decision notice.
