Statement from the Registrar: Sixth update on the inspection of battery producers’ compliance with the Batteries Regulation
RPRA’s inspection of battery producers’ compliance with the management requirements of the Batteries Regulation for the 2022 performance year is now complete.
The inspection found that certain producers have failed to make “best efforts” to meet their minimum management requirements for the 2022 performance year as required under s. 13 of the Batteries Regulation.
RPRA’s Compliance Team has contacted affected producers individually.
The minimum management requirement for 2022 was 40% of the calculated supply for both single-use and rechargeable batteries.
To date, producers, and PROs on their behalf, have reported in the aggregate managing 12% of the calculated supply for single-use batteries and 13% for rechargeable batteries. We expect these numbers to change based on new data from rechargeable battery producers and PROs and because of a Notice of Compliance Requirement that was sent to affected battery producers.
