RPRA CEO Frank Denton to retire in June 2024
The Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority’s Chief Executive Officer Frank Denton has announced his intention to retire as CEO effective June 2024.
“It has been a privilege to serve as RPRA’s first CEO. Over the past six and a half years, I’ve had the honour of leading a team of highly talented and motivated staff to build Canada’s first circular economy regulator. We oversaw the successful transition of Ontario’s legacy waste diversion programs to Ontario’s new producer responsibility regulatory framework and launched two new digital reporting services for the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks,” said Frank Denton.
“Serving the Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks by leading RPRA has been a highlight of my professional career, and I will cherish the memory of many accomplishments. I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with so many committed people, within RPRA and among the stakeholders we serve,” added Mr. Denton.
Mr. Denton was appointed CEO on July 25, 2017. Under his leadership, RPRA established producer responsibility programs under Ontario’s new circular economy regulatory framework for used tires, batteries, hazardous and special products, electronics, lighting, and Blue Box materials. RPRA also implemented two digital reporting services on behalf of the ministry, for excess soil and liquid industrial and hazardous waste.
“RPRA couldn’t have hoped for a better inaugural CEO than Frank. His exceptional talents as a leader shaped RPRA from a legislative mandate into the high performing organization it is today,” said Robert Poirier, Chair of RPRA’s Board of Directors.
“Frank’s leadership has advanced the government’s objectives for environmental protection, and helped create an environmental and economic legacy that will be enjoyed by future generations,” added Mr. Poirier.
RPRA’s Board of Directors has initiated a search to identify RPRA’s next CEO and has engaged the executive search firm Odgers Berndtson to assist in the process. In order to facilitate a comprehensive process, the Board has established a selection committee to oversee the open search for RPRA’s next CEO. Mr. Denton will continue in his role as CEO until a new CEO has been recruited. The Board will continue to benefit from Frank’s experience and perspectives to ensure a smooth transition.
