RPRA launching consultation on how Administrative Penalties collected will be used
RPRA is seeking feedback from stakeholders on how it should use any funds collected through administrative penalties. The consultation will take place from Monday, February 12 to Wednesday, March 27, 2024. Read the proposal.
Stakeholders should submit feedback on the proposal to consultations@rpra.ca by March 27, 2024. RPRA will consider all feedback received during the consultation period. All feedback will be summarized in a consultation report and posted to this webpage when the consultation has concluded.
RPRA is also hosting a webinar on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. to present the proposal, answer questions, and gather feedback from stakeholders.
The Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016 (RRCEA) and the Administrative Penalties Regulation provide RPRA with the power to impose monetary administrative penalties for certain contraventions under the RRCEA and its associated regulations as a tool for compliance. Information about how penalties are assessed and issued under the RRCEA can be found in RPRA’s Administrative Penalty Guideline.
The regulation, however, does not specify how funds collected through administrative penalties are to be used.
