Historical Datacall Statistics now posted

Statistics from the most recent Datacall submission year (2023) are now available on our website.

The Datacall is used to determine the net cost of the Blue Box system and for allocating funding under the Blue Box Program Plan. Each Ontario program (municipality, recycling association or First Nation community) that provides recycling services to residents must complete the Datacall to be eligible for Blue Box funding. The Datacall is also used to determine residential waste diversion rates by program and the province overall.

Datacall Statistics are posted to RPRA’s website annually. These statistics are presented in Excel spreadsheet format and include data for each program, including residential waste diversion rate, organics, other recyclables and Blue Box Program data such as accepted materials, tonnage, program costs and revenue.

The 2023 Datacall Statistics will be the final posting of these reports. No further Datacall reporting will occur as the final group of communities exit the legacy Blue Box Program throughout 2025 and transition to the producer responsibility framework under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016 (RRCEA).

More information about the Datacall including historical statistics beginning in 2002, can be found on the Datacall webpage.

Ontario’s New Blue Box Regulation

On June 3, 2021, the Government of Ontario released the Blue Box Regulation under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016 (RRCEA), requiring producers to operate and pay for the collection and reuse, refurbishment and recycling of Blue Box materials.

The Blue Box Program began transitioning to the new regulatory framework for resource recovery on July 1, 2023, and will continue through to December 31, 2025.

Visit our Blue Box Program Operated by Producers page for more information about the new regulation, including what materials are obligated, regulatory requirements for specific roles (e.g., producer, PRO, processor), key dates and deadlines, and FAQs.
