Using shredded cotton clothing to help grow future crops
Cotton Australia has launched a trial of shredding old cotton textiles such as sheets and coveralls, to mix with compost into the soil. The natural fibres in cotton are harmless when compared to synthetic fertilizers commonly used in farming. The cellulose in cotton becomes food for helpful bacteria, fungus, bugs, and microbes in the soil making it more active. Read more about the trial and the possibility to divert even more textile waste.
