Extended producer responsibility gains traction in the U.S
Maine becomes the first U.S state to pass an extended producer responsibility (EPR) law for consumer packaging. The law will cover a wide range of product packaging except for beverage containers, as they currently have a deposit program. The EPR program will be run by a stewardship organization pending approval from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. They will be responsible for fee setting and making investments in education and infrastructure to reduce future packaging waste. Read more.
