Using whiskey co-products to extract scrap metals from e-waste
Currently, there are many methods to remove metals such as aluminum, gold, tin, and zinc from electronics, but they come with a large financial and environmental cost. Scottish researchers have created a more sustainable, circular, and recyclable method of recovering scrap metals from electronic waste using whiskey. More specifically, the method involves using co-products from whiskey distillation such as draff, pot ale, and spent lees as a filtration method that captures metals that can be recovered and purified for re-use.
