Using coffee grounds and plastic bottles to create waterproof sneakers
Rens is a Helsinki-based footwear company that recycles coffee grounds and plastic bottles into waterproof sneakers. Their shoes are comprised of natural rubber for the soles and use coffee grounds and plastic pellets from recycled water bottles to make the polyester yarn for the upper part of the shoe. Their shoes contain 6 plastic water bottles and about 300 grams of coffee waste, equivalent to 21 cups of coffee. Learn more about the shoes and how they are reducing greenhouse gases.
