The Government of India announced on Friday, July 1, that they are banning some single-use plastic products as part of a federal plan to phase out the use of plastics. The first step in the ban covers 19 plastic products, including disposable cups and straws, that are illegal to produce, import, distribute, or sell. Other plastic products such as bottles and bags are not covered by the ban but instead have set targets for manufacturers to be responsible for recycling or disposing of them after their use.
