Over 2,000 abandoned tires removed from an island in B.C.

Stack of abandoned tires

A remote island on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia (B.C.) has been, until recently, home to thousands of abandoned tires. Let’s Talk Trash, an initiative of the Powell River Regional District’s Waste Management Education Program, discovered this ‘tire island’ when they were looking for sites to clean up. Together with several organizations, 33 volunteers, and funding from the provincial government, 2,409 tires were removed and sent for recycling. Learn more.
