35 tons of styrofoam diverted from Edmonton landfill in 2022
In February 2022, the City of Edmonton started a recycling program for expanded polystyrene (EPS), also known as Styrofoam. Since then, the pilot has been expanded and has diverted over 35 tons from Edmonton’s landfills. The City of Edmonton accepts large EPS pieces, like blocks, packaging and coolers, at all four city eco-stations for free. The EPS is collected by a local recycling company, which compresses the plastic and sells it to other companies that further process it for other uses. Learn more.
