Student innovation helps B.C. farmers tackle plastic waste

Hay bales wrapped in plastic lined up on a farm

Farmers in Agassiz, British Columbia, have found a solution to recycling thousands of tonnes of agricultural plastic waste produced in the area each year, thanks to a new compactor designed by students at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) and the non-profit Cleanfarms. The agricultural plastic waste includes bale wrap and bunker covers used to preserve feed for farm animals. Using the compactor designed by UFV students, local farmers are now able to easily handle and recycle their plastic into pellets to make fence posts and patio planks. Learn more.
