Fungi makes a meal of hard-to-recycle plastic

Researchers at the University of Sydney have successfully found a way to biodegrade Polypropylene, a hard-to-recycle plastic found in a variety of everyday products such as food containers and coat hangers. After the plastic has been pre-treated with either UV light or heat, the fungi consume the materials to reduce the plastic by 21% over 30 days of incubation, and by 25%–27% over 90 days. Read More.
