The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is spearheading a five-year multinational project with participation from Lesotho, Madagascar, South Africa, and Ethiopia. The initiative addresses challenges in the textile value chain, including hazardous chemicals, waste disposal, and their impact on the environment. The project aims to implement circular economy principles, emphasizing resource use, sustainable chemistry, and the conversion of textile waste into economically viable products. The selected countries were chosen based on their apparel export contributions, and the project involves international partners to develop business models, financial systems, and training programs to promote circularity in the textile sector.
