Aimplas, a research institute in Spain, is participating in the Recycling of Complex Materials in Products (RECIMAP) Project, aiming to address the challenge of complex plastic waste in the textile industry, specifically blended cotton and polyester fabric. The research project, led by Bespoke Factory Group and funded by the Valencian Innovation Agency, focuses on finding innovative recycling pathways for multi-material textile waste. RECIMAP aims to selectively separate cotton and polyester blends using ionic liquids, offering a more environmentally sustainable alternative to traditional solvents. The project aims to transform the complex waste into high-quality recycled materials and lactic acid, a crucial component to produce polylactic acid. Read more about this fabric recycling project.
