Heinz has introduced a new plastic bottle cap in the UK after nine years of development, 185,000 product development hours, 45 iterations, and a $1.2 million investment. The cap, made from mono-material polypropene, is designed for easy recycling as it eliminates the need for physical separation of different plastics. Developed by plastic packaging maker Berry Global, the cap aims to save hundreds of millions of bottle caps from landfills annually. Heinz, recognizing its environmental responsibility, also aims to reduce its global use of virgin plastic by 20% by 2030. The design won Rigid Pack of the Year at the 2023 UK Packaging Awards.
