The Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the European Union have launched the Green Economy Programme in the Philippines. The initiative aims to enhance waste management, support the transition to a circular economy, and accelerate the deployment of renewable energy technologies. The initiative will collaborate with all levels of government and the private sector, focusing on policy dialogue, circular economy development, and renewable energy promotion. The program’s pilot areas include various cities and regions, and it aims to recycle 20,000 tons of plastic waste by 2028, create green jobs, and support waste reduction strategies. The five-year initiative is designed to help the Philippines achieve its climate commitments, including a 75% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
