Certified Zero Waste Cities are eliminating waste and promoting the circular economy
Zero Waste Europe’s Zero Waste City initiative aims to eliminate waste and promote a circular economy. Kiel became Germany’s first Zero Waste City, with a plan that included over 100 measures to reduce waste by 15% per person by 2035 and halve residual waste, such as incentives for cloth diapers, free reusable bags, and a pay-as-you-throw waste system. Other Zero Waste Cities globally include Tilos in Greece and Kamikatsu in Japan, each implementing unique waste reduction strategies. Read more about Zero Waste Cities.
