To mark World Environment Day, Emirates is donating over 50,000 kilograms of seat fabrics from 191 aircraft undergoing cabin refreshes to be upcycled into children’s backpacks. Through collaboration with charitable organizations, the backpacks will be given to schools across Africa and Asia this year. The process involves extensive cleaning and customization to ensure quality and safety. This initiative is part of a broader retrofit project that aims to elevate customer experience while sourcing materials for upcycling. The retrofit will take years to complete, providing ongoing opportunities for upcycling initiatives. Read more about this upcycling project.
