The Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability has launched a battery recycling service for residents, who can now recycle batteries by placing them in a bag alongside their glass recycling. The initiative aims to reduce fires at waste and recycling facilities caused by batteries, particularly lithium-ion batteries. Batteries that fit into the clear, sealed 1-quart bag can be set out for curbside collection, while others, like those found in electronic devices and vaping pens, must be dropped off for safe disposal.
