The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has been successfully integrating scrap tires into road construction across the state by collaborating with the Michigan Department of Transportation, local universities, county road commissions, and tire associations. Since 1992, EGLE has awarded over 100 grants that incorporate scrap tires, covering more than 200 lane-miles. In 2024 alone, an additional 70 lane-miles are slated for construction using this material. By the end of 2024, EGLE projects will have funded over 300 miles of rubber-modified pavement across 32 communities in Michigan. Read more about rubberized asphalt.
