A not-for-profit organization based in British Columbia is piloting a new program to collect soft plastics like plastic bags and packaging from homes. Recycle BC is setting up bins at multi-family residential buildings to collect these plastics and empty twice a week. Currently, only about 20% of soft plastics are recycled, but Recycle BC aims to improve this rate by making recycling easier for residents. The program builds on a previous pilot in West Vancouver that showed improved recycling rates with direct home collection. Read more about Recycle BC’s soft plastic collection pilot program.
