Understanding Ontario’s EEE Regulation

The Understanding Ontario’s Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) Regulation Learning Series Events were designed to help those affected by the regulation, understand and meet their obligations, and participate in the new market for recycling, reusing and refurbishing EEE. 2020

In September 2020, the Government of Ontario released the EEE Regulation. RPRA held several events throughout 2020 to support affected stakeholders with their obligations.

On November 17, 2020, RPRA’s Registrar Pat Moran hosted a webinar to help producers of for producers of information technology, telecommunications, audio-visual equipment (ITT/AV) understand their obligations. Topics included:

  • how to determine if you are an obligated producer
  • what ITT/AV products must be reported to the authority
  • how to determine the weight of ITT/AV supplied
  • how to register

On October 20, 2020, RPRA’s Registrar Pat Moran provided an overview of the new regulation and regulatory framework for EEE recycling, reuse, and refurbishment in Ontario, with a focus on outlining the regulatory requirements for producers of EEE. Topics included:

  • the definition of a producer
  • collection and management requirements
  • exemptions
  • reporting requirements
  • contractual relationships
  • working with a producer responsibility organization (PRO)
