Alberta’s circular manufacturing is transforming resources into new products

The Alberta government is investing up to $49 million through the Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) program to support 18 projects aimed at advancing the province’s circular economy. The initiative is expected to create nearly 1,600 jobs and generate $233 million for Alberta’s economy. Projects include new technologies in waste management, carbon utilization, critical minerals, and clean energy. Highlights include recycling agricultural plastics, converting construction wood waste into building materials, and producing carbon nanofibers from plant-based waste. Companies like Carbonova, Hughes Energy Group, and Atlas Power Technologies are receiving funding to develop innovative, sustainable solutions. Officials emphasize the investment’s dual benefit of economic growth and environmental protection, positioning Alberta as a global leader in circular manufacturing. The initiative supports local innovation, promotes low-carbon technologies, and strengthens Alberta’s competitiveness while helping reduce emissions and create long-term, clean-tech jobs across multiple industries.
