Billy Bishop airport welcomes a new crew member – a recycling robot

At Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport, a new kind of helper has landed — and it does not fly planes. As travelers hustle through the terminal, many pause beside a sleek, talking recycling bin. “Empty can?” it asks to busy travelers’ surprise. When you say, “yes, actually” the robot scans the item. Then directs you to drop it into the blue bin to recyclable aluminum. Dubbed Recibot, the AI assistant is designed to eliminate the guesswork of waste sorting. Cameras and sensors identify items, while a friendly voice educates travelers — turning a routine toss into a teachable moment. When in doubt, the robot asks, “unsure if it’s recyclable?” and then tells you cheerfully, “I’ve got you covered!”. When users move towards the robot, they are intrigued and amused. In a place where every second counts, even a moment of mindful recycling is a win. Watch this video to learn more.
