California bans plastic straws, with some exemptions

The U.S.’s most populous state has enacted the first state-wide ban on plastic straws. The new law takes effect January 1, 2019 and applies to dine-in restaurants. But at fast-food restaurants, customers can still request plastic straws. Learn more about the law and the exemptions.
