Canada aims to reduce waste through sustainable insect production

The Canadian government has funded a new agricultural initiative to help increase the production of ‘sustainable, nutritious products’ to feed animals while keeping food out of landfills. Under the AgriInnovate program, food waste is recycled and fed to insects, which are then dried and processed into animal feed ingredients and fertilizer for plants. The new commercial facility is able to recycle more than 130 tons of food waste per day, which has brought more than 65 jobs to the local economy. Read more.
