Carpet stewardship group to pay $1 million for not meeting EPR requirements

The Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) has agreed to pay $1.175 million in a settlement with the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery, the regulator responsible for enforcing California’s EPR law for carpets and overseeing the carpet collection and recycling program managed by CARE.

The settlement was reached after a years long legal battle after CalRecycle fined CARE for failing to demonstrate continuous meaningful improvement in carpet recycling. Learn more
