China pilots AI technology for closed-loop recycling

Two multinational companies have joined forces to launch a closed-loop plastic recycling system in China. As part of a pilot program called Waste-Free World, 20 AI-enabled recycling machines have been installed in offices and community spaces in Shanghai and Hangzhou. The state-of-the-art AI technology pre-sorts plastic packaging into various grades for reuse and awards green energy points to consumers for each bottle deposited in the machines.
