A federal pilot project to reduce single-use plastics at major grocery retailers will be launched in Ottawa. Walmart, Sobeys, and Metro stores in a designated area of Ottawa will receive reusable containers for distributing select food items. Customers can purchase items in these containers and return them to drop-off locations both inside and outside the stores. The program aims to expand to other food establishments and regions in the future, aiming for high participation rates and cost-effectiveness for both grocers and consumers.
