Gabriola organizations’ circular economy initiatives receive funding

GIRO and Island Futures Society are two of five organizations that are among the recipients of zero waste funding from the Regional District of Nanaimo. GIRO is a textile recovery social enterprise initiative that will use the funds to purchase a textile shredder that will keep thousands of pounds of textile out of the landfill. Island Futures Society promotes community sustainability on the Gulf Islands and plans to use the funds to divert all waste vegetable oil used on Gabriola to reduce fossil fuel use. Read more.
