Jakarta-based startups are offering points and other rewards in exchange for recyclables such as plastic bottles as the country’s plastic waste continues to increase. Various startups are testing automated collection boxes in busy metro stations and offering scheduled pickup services from homes and companies through an app. When users exchange their recyclables at the collection boxes, they scan a QR code and earn points that can be converted into digital currency.
