More than 1.2 million mattresses recycled in Connecticut since 2015

Piles of old mattresses to be recycled in warehouse

Thanks to the “ByeBye Mattress” program, residents in Connecticut can recycle their old mattresses and box springs into other useful items such as carpet padding, insulation, filters and new steel products. When residents buy new beds, they are charged a recycling fee of $11.75 per unit that goes towards disassembling and separating the steel, foam, fibre, and wood. Residents are able to drop off their old mattresses at various recycling centres or by coordinating with their municipalities for curbside pickup, allowing for over 21,000 tons of materials and over 1.2 million mattresses to be diverted from landfill since 2015.
