Mother-son duo developing insulation made from discarded textiles in Northern Ontario
Sic Sox Circular, headquartered in Brunswick House First Nation, was created with the desire to keep used clothing and fabrics out of landfills – including those that aren’t fit to be re-worn. Founded by Jerrett Paquette and his mother, Doris Mitchell, Sic Sox collects old textiles in all conditions through their brightly-coloured donation boxes. While items that can be reused are given a second life through the company’s thrift store, the mother-son duo has also been working with researchers to find the best ways to transform unusable items into insulation for homes. With an increasing number of donation boxes across northern Ontario and partnerships with local post-secondary institutions, Sic Sox’s impact on their community continues to grow.
