Scientists discover microplastics near Mount Everest

In 2019, National Geographic conducted the most comprehensive single scientific expedition to Mount Everest in history. In an ambitious effort to study how climate change and other human actions are affecting the surrounding region, a team of 30 scientists discovered a concentration of microplastics near Everest at an elevation of 27,700 feet—the highest yet found on the planet.
