Lion Vision has created a system that integrates machine vision with machine learning to identify, visualize, and remove lithium-ion batteries and other hazardous items from waste. This system can analyze over half a million images and detect more than 600 cylinder batteries per hour. Currently focused on cylinder batteries, it can be programmed to recognize over 40 battery subtypes and other dangerous objects like vapes. The system is operational at several UK sites, including SWEEEP in Kent, where it processes 100 tonnes of waste electrical and electronic equipment daily, detecting over 4500-cylinder batteries each day.
