New EU-funded project aims to prevent fires caused by batteries at e-waste recycling facilities
The GRINNER project has been awarded a grant to fund a demonstrator model to improve waste management of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). The project could also prevent fires caused by different battery types located inside discarded WEEE. By using an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered detection system of batteries, and data from X-ray detectors and pick-and-place robots the system analyses x-ray data and detect waste that contains batteries. These items are then safely removed by a robot to be processed separately. Learn how this project will prevent recycling facilities from closing down due to fires and more.
