The Guelph-Wellington’s Commercial Food Waste Diversion Collective, led by the Circular Innovation Council, has successfully diverted 400 tons of surplus food and organic waste from landfills since its launch in November 2021. The program, involving 65 businesses, has recovered over $214,000 worth of surplus edible food, converting it into 62,000 meals for the food insecure while avoiding 2,324 tonnes of CO2e emissions. The pilot phase, aimed at encouraging businesses to participate in food waste diversion, offers affordable rates, advisory services, and free equipment.
