Orillia, Ontario introduced a new curbside collection program this spring to recycle textiles like clothing, towels bedding and more. They successfully diverted 6.4 tonnes of textiles from the landfill, which typically accounts for over 5% of landfill waste. This initiative supports the city’s goal to raise its waste diversion rate to 75% by 2025, up from the current 70%. The program, managed by Recycling Rewards, achieved a 98% recycling rate. Due to its success, the city plans to expand the program in the future. Read more about Orillia’s textile recycling program.
