Preventing food waste in Kenya with solar-powered cold storage

SokoFresh, a Kenyan company, uses solar-powered storage facilities to help small-scale farmers keep their produce fresh to prevent food waste. Due to the high temperatures, produce perishes very quickly after being harvested. With over 90% of Kenya’s produce coming from small-scale farmers who cannot afford cold storage, there is a large amount of food waste. With the introduction of these low-cost cold storage facilities, farmers can retain high-quality products while also creating new jobs and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Learn more.
