Seattle ReCreative, a sort of ‘thrift store for art supplies’, diverts about 4,500 pounds of waste from landfills each month. The nonprofit takes in donations of fine-art supplies, plastic straws, cutlery, beaded necklaces, and more, and sells them for 60% off retail value –or in some cases, gives them away for free. The initiative aims to challenge people to assess their own consumption habits and promote a circular economy. Read more about how ReCreative inspires artists to use upcycled supplies.
